Set in a period property in central London, our client was unhappy with the location of their bar, which was tucked away in the back and was not achieving the revenue stream they wanted. We were asked to relocate their existing restaurant and move the bar to the front of the hotel, so that they could attract more passing trade.

We set about assessing the best location for the bar counter, so that it could be seen from the street.  We designed a new modern illuminated bar and  an interesting contemporary back bar, so that it would attract the eye. We also sourced some eye catching lights to hang from the front elevation in an asymmetrical fashion which created a very interesting play on the light.  Once dimmed at night, the room becomes very atmospheric and dramatic.

The furniture layout was simple taking advantage of the modified walls that gave us a backdrop to put in some feature walls and feature lighting. The specified furniture was modern, comfortable and varied, to create different pockets of seating. We also allowed for a lot of standing areas, with the use of poseur tables. Window treatments were simplified, from the existing curtains they had previously, with sliding sheer panels.

The client was very pleased with that we managed to achieve on a limited budget.

’Just a quick line to say thank you for the work you have undertaken, in respect of both current projects for Mercure London Bloomsbury and Mercure Letchworth Hall Hotel.

As usual you have produced a scheme which has been accepted by my board, within the budget and have met the criteria of both general managers whilst fulfilling the criteria we set out. It is always an easy choice when looking for a designer, as you now understand what our key focus is and how to present it in the best way to assist with getting the project signed off.’
